AtlAtl 2010 - Richfield Ut

We completed our latest AtlAtl competition last weekend. We trekked to the quaint town of Richfield UT to participate in the Fremont Indian State Park AtlAtl competition. We tossed our hearts out and Katy ended up taking 1st place in the women and Jake took 3rd in Mens. Before gasping at our achievement, keep in mind only 7 men took part and 5 women. Still, not too shabby.

The competition consists of two parts. First, a golf like tournament where competitors toss darts at different distances between a series of around 10 targets, generally 100 - 300 yards apart. The point is to try to get to the target and stick a dart in the target in as few a throws as possible. (A bit like golf scoring) For the second part you are given 5 throws at a cardboard target on which is drawn an animal shape. The more accurate your throw, the less points you are assigned. The person with the least amount of points overall wins.

The AtlAtl competition is part of a larger Mountain Man Rendezvous event. We also enjoyed some good food and birch beer sodas at the event.

We recently gave up the ghost to our old christmas tree and bought a new one. We bought a skinny tree in hopes it would help us with our new years resolutions. Katy decorated the heck out of this thing. It looks like a festival of trees tree hopped up on goof-balls. See pretty pic below:

We attended Jakes work party at the Grand America last weekend. We had steak sirloins, halibut, and pork tenderloins. Katy had enough smoked salmon, if which converted to local currency, could have provided Christmas to a small Chinese village.

We also recently rode the infamous Frontrunner. It was smooth, quiet and kind of fun. It felt like you were on some sort of strange mini-vacation but not really, especially since your travels end in Ogden. Katy liked the mini tables and free WI-FI. Jake was a little disappointed that there were no salted nuts and half-can drinks served. Katy's parents did come to the rescue with some special snacks to keep Jake quiet and occupied during the trip.

Katy went to new moon. She is of course on team Jacob!

She with the many crazy women went to the midnight showing of New Moon. She helped out on team Alice (the character she most identifies with), to plan a convention around new moon. Here are some more pics of the event:

Twas the True Night Before Christmas

After work they passed out, close to flat dead.

Away to the window I crawled like a slug,

To check for prank kids, or maybe a thug.

A pack of small dogs, all licking their rear.

With bone in paw, licking his lip,

I knew in a moment it must be St. Chip.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,

And he barked, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Dakota! now, Bear! now, Reeses and Einstein!

On, Jax! on Champ! on, Eddie and Lexi!

So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,

With the sleigh full of Bones, and St. Chipolas too.

As I facebooked and blogged with no one around,

Through the dog door St. Chipolas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his paw,

The cutest little Santa you ever saw;

A bundle of chew toys he had flung on his back,

Drooling and sniffing, looking for a snack

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a blackberry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up with a glow,

As he saw the cookies, he knew right where to go;

A wink of his eye and he flew like the wind,

On the couch, on the table, my mind it did spin;

He barked not a sound, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

He wanted to leave a mark that he’d been

But to leave that on the tree would be a sin.

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a big “Woof”!,

And away they all flew right off of the roof.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

Katy completed her first triathlon on 5/16/09. She swam 300 Meters, biked 12 miles and then ran 3 miles. She did an awesome job! Way to go Katy!

I'm sure you're just "dying" to know what we did for Halloween this year! We did the old fogey thing and stayed home and passed out candy to the tots. We did toy with the idea to dress up Chip as a "Buffalo Chip" as seen below and collect candy for ourselves, but we opted not to. As usual we had to have had at least 10,000 trick or treaters. It was fun seeing all the miniature characters come to our door. Strangely enough, no one dressed up as Chunk from goonies! What's the world coming to?

Saturday night we attended a Murder Mystery Dinner put on by our good friends Mike and Alisa Dayhuff. They did a superb job and the night was very memorable. We were assigned to come as different Hollywood characters. Katy was Marilyn Monroe and I was Groucho Marx. Also in attendance were Elvis Presley, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Bing Crosby and about 30 others!

A few weeks back we went up to American Fork Canyon and had ourselves a family cookout with the Lambson family (and Kaitlynn). It was alot of fun and a good chance to kick back with our great family. We did manage to not get rained on this year, and everyone came out of it with functioning limbs and sensory organs, it went well.

I don't know about you but I'm a true blue Goonie. Ask me sometime to show you the truffle shuffle. We went up to Kennecott a few weeks ago as my Dad's Mill department was celebrating a 20 year anniversary. Whenever I visit Kennecott I always seem to think of Chester Copperpot, the lost treasure hunter, as seen on the Goonies film. They really don't have much in common except the word copper, but I always hoped that perhaps pirates had stashed all that treasure they find up thar in them hills. We had a good time as they provided a very nice lunch and a fun tour of the Mill at Kennecott. If you ever have the chance, definitely take it.

We took a little drive around the Nebo Loop last Saturday. The colors are great, if you haven't done this loop, it's a great time to go right now! Make sure you hike the Grotto Trail!

Alpine Loopy

It's amazing how a little weekend drive can lengthen your weekend. (Or at least how long it feels) We did the Alpine Loop. Temps were super comfortable. There was a magical medium that rarely shows it's gleeful face where both Katy and Jake are happy with their ambient surroundings, during the loop we found one. We took a hike on the South Fork Little Deer Creek Trail. Whoever named that trail needs to brush up on their run-on noun rule book.

We also stopped at a few really nice parks that line the Provo river at the mouth of Provo Canyon.

We went to Katy's parents to celebrate Lee's birthday. He's turning 112!!! Wow, way to hang in there Lee!!! :) Just kidd'n, we don't know how many years young he is, but he lives life as if age were not a factor. We ate, played some croquet, and took it easy like the good ole days. It was a good time.

Tuesday we had a fun ward party in a park in our area. We had a potluck bar-b-q, fun loud music, over 200 people to socialize with, and a wet-n-wild time with the banana slide.

Alien Dog

The other night Katy and I had a tiki torch porch night. (You've got to come try one of these with us) We were just kick'n it easy and pondering the greatness while listening to the cool pineapple sounds of Jack Johnson. We decided to break out the camera and try and take some night shots of the house with the moon. We set the shutter to stay open for 10 seconds or so and got some sweet shots of our house during the tiki-fest.

If anyone knows how to take the pink "burns" out of the picture with this type of photography, do share!

While we were snapping shots of the house, we caught a glimpse of what every sci-fi geek only wishes to see... an alien dog. At first we thought they were the beginnings of some type of green death-ray... then they softened into a light glow. Katy and I are still convinced the alien dog was scanning us in hopes of finding intelligent forms of life..... he left shortly thereafter.

Get'n Getaway'd

We decided to get away for part of the long weekend so we gathered up our gear and headed to the Uintas for an over-nighter. We went up to Jake's grandparents property on the Evanston side of the mirror lake highway. We hiked around Mirror lake, tried our luck at fishing at Trial lake (no fish), and took in the scenic views. I think if I believed in reincarnation, and I died, I'd wanna come back as the Uintah's (is that against the rules?) That's how much Jake likes the mountains.

We thought we saw Sasquatch, but it turned out to be just Ivan. We met him up at the property as he was wrapping up his getaway trip. He was nice enough to let us stay in his trailer (which was much more comfortable than the back of the Xterra thanks!) Overall it was the perfect little trip to get out of the valley heat and enjoy some of Gods green gift to us!

4th of July

For the 4th, we went to the Provo Parade. We saw all sorts of fun and patriotic stuff. Most off all we celebrated freedom! Thanks to all those veterans who make the best gift in the world possible for us every day! After the Parade, we wanted to go to Seven Peaks and show off Jake's new bod he's been working on ;) After the parade we quickly discovered that all roads to 7 peaks were closed by the parade route. So we did what any couple of couples would do in this situation... we high tailed it to Red Robin for some grub.
We did eventually enjoy 7 peaks. It was a groovy warm day and our milky white mormon skin was just dying for some reddish hue coloring. Jake was so white that he was asked to take his white shirt off to go down a slide, when he already had.
After 7 peaks, we skiddadled over to Mom & Dad Hancocks (a little late, sorry) and took part in a good ole bar-b-q. We visited and enjoyed the family. We also got to celebrate Christopher Hancocks B-Day! (Happy B-day Chris, and Marianne too!)

Happy Canada Day

Today was Canada Day! Our neighborhood has a healthy population of our Canadian friends. Each year they have had a neighborhood parade dedicated to Canada's Birthday. The previous years the parade has taken place at 7:00 AM. This particular detail has previously had a converse affect to my taste for the northern celebration. Due to the magnetic attraction between myself and my bed during early morning hours, I haven't been able to experience the delight of the Canadian street show.

This year, to my pleasure, the parade took place in the evening. I was very much impressed at the sheer size of this years procession. There were Canadian flag teams, muscle cars, and even classic cars. No longer will I curse "Hosers" early in the morn on this glorious day, but sing praises to our prestigious poutine partners from the north. Thank you Canada, for all you do.

We took a little ride up to Silver Lake over the weekend. It's a quaint little lake and a nice place to get away from the city heat and crowds. We did some 4 wheeling and took chip for a walk around the Lake. Jack Russell's are supposed to love swimming, Chip must be some kind of wussy poodle inside, cause he ain't gett'n in that water. We tried to coax him into the lake with a few sticks, rocks and even sour cream and onion sun chips. He would have nothing of it.

5 Years Strong

For our 5 Year Anniversary we decided up and go to San Diego to catch some rays. We found a steal of a deal and stayed at the "Capri by the Sea" on Pacific Beach. It had great views of the ocean. We went to Sea World, San Diego Zoo, and hung out on the beach.

5 Things we found out about San Diegoians:

1. They missed the lesson in school about looking both ways before you cross the street.
2. No Shirt, No Shoes, No problem!
3. The entire city goes to the beach on Saturday.
4. You must have at least 11 cars per house, and they must all be parked on the street.
5. Flip Flops are the city's official shoe.

Memorial Day Weekend Fun

We started the weekend off by going to out to Breakfast at Village Inn with our good friends Heidi and Chris and their boy Beck. This was one of our first experiences eating out with a toddler. We quickly found out how messy this can be. Heidi and Chris seemed to be experts at handling the mess though. Beck tried to sneak a few sausages from Jake, but Jake was on his toes and kept his food a safe distance away.

After a filling breakfast, we all went to the District Movie Theater to check out the new Indiana Jones movie. It was fun, Jake cried at the end :0 (j/k)

Then Jake Screamed, and Katy Screamed, then we all screamed for Ice Cream. We went to the "Marble Slab Creamery" in the new district outdoor shopping area. It was basically cold stone with a different name. But tasty none the less.

Katy spent a good hour getting her shopping addiction satisfied after Ice Cream. Jake decided to get even with her by stopping by the Honda Motorcycle shop to gawk at his future motorcycle. The honda shadow or maybe the Sabre.

Goodbye Trooper, Hello XTerra!!!

Our faithful Isuzu Trooper has finally been retired. Even though we wished it could last us through the eternities, we realized all good things must come to an end. The Trooper has given us many a great memories. Including our first date, Katy's first ski and fishing trip, several Moab trips, camping and many other experiences. Trooper, we will always love you. What a Trooper!!!

With the Trooper in dire need of some major repairs to get it inspected this year, we decided it would be best to just put the money into something newer. We had been car shopping for the last few weeks and came across a great deal yesterday we just couldn't turn down. We bought a 2006 Nissan Xterra. It's a great replacement for the Trooper since we always wanted to keep a 4WD vehicle in our vehicle arrangement. We're looking forward to making more new memories.

UTAH Museum Of Natural History

Finally, warm weather... we decided to take advantage and go have some fun indoors. :) We went up to the museum of Natural History at the U of U. We dropped Chip off at Grandma & Grandpa Lambsons to enjoy himself in their fenced backyard with free roam. After a few bad experiences with the mean neighbor black lab, Chip decided to stay indoors with Grandpa Lambson and Uncle Phil helping them paint Grandma's bathroom. Here are some pics from the museum. We explored all kinds of shiny rocks, dinasaurs, ancient mammals, and the gift shop. Jake's favorite was the mammal exibit, Katy's was the gift shop. Afterwards, we went to one of Jake's old high school hang out's, "Take Five", for a thick milkshake and enjoyed the warmer weather.

First Bar-B-Q of the year!

Today we cleaned up the bar-b-q grill and grilled us up some cow pieces... yumm. They were beef rounds and recommended by our neighbors (since we aren't quite the pro's at which part of the cow taste's best yet). We also tried a new potato casarole recipe, but only hit a 3 out of 5 on the Lambson Taste scale.

On Valentine's Day Katy planned an exquisite date. She bought me a new suit (which I've been sorely needing). We went to Target and had some pictures taken of us to document our aging faces. (see the pics below). We then went to the roof restaurant downtown and enjoyed a wonderful dinner with a spectacular view of the temple and a nice sunset. Nice job Katy! I have the best wife in the world, sorry guys.

I wanted to dedicate this post to the grandure and genius of Dr. Pepper. I love going to the Dr. everyday. It burns my throat, it tickles my my tounge. It makes me feel so very peppy! I want this bike. Look close, it's a Dr. Pepper Bike! I saw it on display in Moab. I about died. My good friend Kara won this bike. I hate her now!

CHIP

CHIP was born on May 14th, 2005. He's a sweet dog and very friendly (although you can't convince my sister of that) He loves to play in the park, in the snow, dig, chase birds, and cuddle with us at night. He will be 3 this coming may, which makes him 21 in dog years. (He can legally drink now!) His tricks include knowing how to beg, shake hands, roll over, walk on two feet and turn in a circle, and sleep. We love you CHIP!!!
